Kingsland Primary School - Castleford site
The Castleford site has been extended and refurbished to meet the needs of pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties, many of whom have autism. Some pupils on the site have additional needs including medical or physical difficulties or sensory impairment. The school is a single storey building with eleven classrooms, including early Foundations classrooms and a wing/facilities that enables the needs of pupils with complex autism/sensory integration difficulties to be met. These facilities include a sensory Integration Room, outdoor Sensory Integration Provision, Sensory Room, Sensory Pod, Trampoline, Communication/Language Development Room and a Ball Pool. The site benefits from a Music/Art classroom, a KS2 learning area with 4 classrooms and a Learning Zone, literacy/maths intervention room, Therapy Group Room and fully equipped hygiene areas. KS1 and Early Foundations pupils benefit from having access to covered outdoor learning/play areas.
There are a number of play areas including one for Key Stage 1 pupils and a large one for Key Stage 2 pupils. Early Years pupils have their own external play areas leading off from the classrooms. Pupils on the Site benefit from adventure and roadway play areas in addition to a sports play area, imaginative play area, inclusive play area which contains a large climbing structure, roundabout, swings and outdoor trampoline. A woodland area is being developed.
